A pack of young wolves saying “fuck the rules”—torching GPAs, ditching the corporate ladder, and going all-in to build the future by any means necessary. Just like Big Bro Kay said. But what are we actually seeing? College kids rounding up random teammates for hackathons and competitions—not to build something real, not to make money, but to pad resumes for big tech or finance gigs. Straight-up clout chasing. Don’t get me wrong: more Gen-Z joining Web3 is dope. Last cycle was dominated by boomer-minded dinosaurs. Now? We’re faster, bolder, and actually executing. That’s progress. But let’s be real: a lot of Gen-Z are just bandwagon hoppers in this wealth transfer movement. The Red Flags: A buddy sent me a LinkedIn profile the other day: Some HKU freshman with “kid boss” energy, posing in a suit and tie with “Web3” slapped in his bio… while mass-applying to traditional finance internships. My friend: “You know this guy?” Me: “Who the fuck is this clown?” Yeah, outside the core Gen-Z OGs, random outsiders have crept in. If they’re genuinely learning? Cool. But 90% of them just use “Web3” as a label while doing the most conformist shit imaginable. Maybe it’s leftover hype from CRCL ICOs, or some AI startup frenzy spillover. Either way, these people are easy to spot: - Blockchain knowledge stuck in 2017 ICO era - Zero hustle to network or attend events - Never sacrifice GPA, campus clubs, or their “golden” corporate pipeline Meanwhile, real Gen-Z builders? They’re out here sacrificing everything for the grind: - Skipping lectures to meet VCs (I’ve ditched 20+ classes this term) - Flying to events globally, even if broke (shoutout to the - guy who backpacked Singapore for Solana Breakpoint) - Booking flights within hours of spotting an opportunity - Pitching co-founders at 4AM because inspiration struck - Building first, worrying about exams later - Hustling deals everywhere—from Dubai whale mansions to SEA KTV backrooms That’s real Web3 spirit. That’s punk fucking energy. However, after all these BS, this isn’t a callout. It’s a gratitude post. I’m just grateful I found my tribe.
