We live in the richest country in the history of the world. No one should go hungry.
But food insecurity is on the rise in every single state.
And the Republican budget bill would make this situation far worse.
Here’s what food banks are warning will happen if it passes ⬇️
Food Bank of Alaska: "Food pantries are already at capacity. When SNAP is slashed, we see it in real time: longer lines, higher demand, and increased strain on volunteers and donated food supplies. We can’t fill the gap. No food bank can.”
Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine: “We are already running to keep up with today’s increased need. We do not have resources to fill the gap that would be created by this bill.”
New Jersey's Five Food Banks: "With nearly 1.1 million New Jerseyans facing hunger, food banks – which are already at record levels of service – won’t be able to fill the gaps these cuts will create."
Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio: “Food banks can’t make up the difference, philanthropy can’t make up the difference — there’s been too many cuts to federal grants…there just isn’t anything else. Our real fear is that people just don’t eat.”
Leaders of America's food banks—the people on the front lines of the hunger crisis—could not be more clear: if this bill passes, some people "just don't eat."
They just don't eat.
Republicans in congress are kicking people while they’re down to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
It's cruel. It's wrong. And it represents a moral failure of historic scale.
