After presenting their findings yesterday to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, the investigative committee tasked with determining the facts behind the clashes and atrocities committed along the coast of Northwestern Syria in March, have released their findings. These are some of the highlights of the report:
-Investigators traveled to and searched 33 sites on or near the coast.
-Over 230 military and security personnel were killed by Assadists, with 265 suspects being identified so far.
-Victim families reported that Assadist remnants used their areas to attack security forces.
-Well over 200,000 armed individuals went to the coast after the initial ambushes against the military/security forces by Assadists, resulting in chaos.
-The death of at least 1,426 people (civilians and former members of the Assad Regime) are documented, including 90 women.
-Severe violations against civilians were recorded on 8-9th March.
-Violations were recorded in several operations by security forces.
-Some individuals formed gangs to loot cities and towns along the coast.
-Over 480 reported cases of arson.
-Individuals impersonated military/security forces to commit violations and atrocities against civilians.
-So far 298 individuals involved in violations and atrocities have been identified.
After announcing the results of the investigation, the head of the fact-finding committee, Jumaa al-Anzi, announced that all information about crimes committed have been provided to the public prosecutor, with him adding, “The state is serious about holding all officials accountable from all ranks, and the coming days will reveal this.”
