According to a new study, children and teens have an 80% higher risk of death, compared to those in 18 other high-income countries (OECD18).
Infants under 1 years old have a 78% higher risk of death.
This isn’t warfare. It’s childhood.
What is causing these deaths? 🧵
Infants under 1 years old in the US:
+ 2.2x higher premature birth
+ 2.39x higher incidence of sudden unexpected infant death
Children and teens 1-19 years old in the US:
+ 15x increased risk of gun-related incidents
+ 2.45x increased risk of car crashes
Additionally, obesity, depression, loneliness, early onset menstruation, and sleep disorders all increased in US children during the 2007-2023 study period.
This study was vast: 82 million US children and teens compared with 120 million from 18 other countries (OECD18).
