i've been thinking on how to put into words the exp from the past few months of getting involved in the community organizing & direct action spaces so here goes
a brief crypto radical's guide to systemic change:
0/9

1. know our place
we are still laborers, we are not the capital-owning class, but we do have economic privilege that our peers likely dont
most orgs are tight asf on resources; donations of materials & tools, covering costs, these go much further than you'd think
1/9
2. read theory, read history
read the critiques of capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, hierarchy
read about the black panthers, brown berets, chicanos, zapatistas
it's inspiring to learn what came before us, but grounding to learn how far we have to go
2/9
3. grow food
without sustainable food, nothing else matters. learning the means of food production grounds us in our lived reality & teaches us the labor & expertise that goes into what keeps us alive
volunteer at permacultures, guerilla gardens, & mutual aid farms
3/9
4. organize
bring the conf energy; meet ppl, make connects, build coalitions, radicalize spaces of encounter
always pull up for unions, never cross a strike, join any mobilization for liberation, we're all struggling against the same structures
apes together strong n shit
4/9
5. weaponize privilege
having money lets us contribute more material resources, citizens can take higher risks for migrant ppl, technical ppl can speak to the nuances of opsec, academics can leverage their status (see chomsky, grothendieck, etc)
5/9
6. read the room
trust absolutely no one wants a wallet or a coin
start with volunteering, dig the fucking hole, keep it low tech, then optimize out
fight premature optimization with vigor, focus on immediate material gains, if even just incremental
6/9
7. build infra
we dont need software, we need ppl & systems which *do the thing*; that's feeding the hungry, caring for the houseless, helping migrants navigate paperwork, distributing critical info, spreading the word
more than one-offs, we need systems & consistency
7/9
8. care for yourself too
we're in a generations long fight, we're not likely to be the one that finishes it
giving mind, body, and soul to the movement for liberation means eating well, exercising, taking breaks, preparing for sustained resistance && construction
8/9
if youd like specifics on these; recommended readings, material examples, or resources, feel free to lmk in the replies
i may do more technical content soon, but so far there's been nothing more important than mutual aid & ground work
all power to all the people. peace 💜
