ASTRONAUT CAPTURES EARTH’S LIGHTSHOW - FROM 250 MILES UP NASA’s Jonny Kim once dropped what might be the most jaw-dropping view of Earth's auroras - a time-lapse of 'em dancing over Southeast Asia and Australia, shot straight from space. Ribbons of green light ripple across the curve of the planet, like Earth exhaling in neon. Our magnetic field deflects most solar winds the sun hurls at us - but some sneak through near the poles. There, they smash into oxygen and nitrogen in the upper atmosphere, lighting up the sky in greens, reds, and purples. Basically Earth showing off - and one astronaut lucky enough to catch it.
