After Trump hit Brazil with a 50% tariff, Lula accused him of acting like “the emperor of the world” and trashing 200 years of diplomacy.
He’s demanding respect for Brazil’s “sovereignty” and threatening WTO action or a global anti-U.S. alliance.
But back home, Lula’s pushing BRICS to ditch the U.S. dollar and letting Justice Alexandre de Moraes go after American citizens and tech companies — way beyond Brazil’s borders.
Sovereignty when convenient.

🇧🇷 BRAZIL SUPREME COURT BACKS LULA’S TAX HIKE … MOSTLY
Brazil’s top court just handed Lula a win.
The Financial Operations Tax (IOF) hike he pushed through survived, minus one chunk.
The Supreme Court approved higher taxes on credit, currency exchange, and pensions, but blocked the part hitting “forfait” payments, those advance supplier payouts Congress argued weren’t loans.
Finance officials are thrilled.
They say the ruling restores inter-branch harmony and salvages most of the projected cash: 12B reais this year, 31B by 2026.
