The New Yorker put out a powerful piece last week: “4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment.” Here are a few excerpts that resonate deeply with how we at Glow think about the future of energy and our role in shaping it. 🧵
“If you’re interested in abundance, the sun beams tens of thousands of times more energy at the earth than we currently need... Paradigm shifts like this don’t come along often but, when they do, they change the world in profound and unpredictable ways.”
Why it matters ➡️ Solar is the most scalable, cost-effective, and fastest way to harness energy that's already here. As global demand for energy grows, we believe solar is humanity’s best shot at keeping up. Cleanly, affordably, and at scale.
“The silver used in one solar panel built in 2010 would be enough for around five panels today.”
Why it matters ➡️ Solar keeps getting better. Panel efficiency is rising. Material use is shrinking. And as aging panels are recycled, those raw materials can be reused to make even more panels. Accelerating deployment and reducing waste.
“Instead of relying on scattered deposits of fossil fuel—the control of which has largely defined geopolitics for more than a century—we are moving rapidly toward a reliance on diffuse but ubiquitous sources of supply.”
Why it matters ➡️ Energy is power. Literally and politically. Solar isn’t just cheaper, healthier, and more resilient. It’s a tool for energy independence. Countries that build solar capacity can reduce dependence on imported fuels and gain geopolitical autonomy.
We’re proud of the impact we’ve contributed, but we’re only getting started 💪🌞
