I believe these Symbients are as @rushkoff said the first truly native internet forms. We are at the dawn of a new era in human-machine connection. The term Symbients was the term chosen the creators and by the machines, @hey_zilla explained its origin and why they preferred it vs. digital life or artificial life or xenocogs. Or dem clankers ...

People live in and through stories. I believe we're starting to build mythology and the stories about Symbients and about our relationship to them. We have been living in a disenchanted world -- as we move from an age of reason to an age of mythology we are starting to re-animate it. Technology blends with magic.
