Bitcoin, a $2T ecosystem based on software, can't reach consensus on 9 lines of code needed to allow more and better scale (op_CAT).
And it can't agree, for past 4 years, on any other minor change/update. Pretty insane.

The code in the linked repository is not Bitcoin Core v28.1 + visual patches. It is a 3 day old fork of Bitcoin Cores master branch (work-in-progress code, that will eventually become v30.0) + visual patches. I’d advise against compiling and running this code with any real funds.

If you're unhappy with Bitcoin Core policy changes, you can now run Bitcoin Deis/Knots.
Bitcon Deis is not complicated - it's a clone of Bitcoin Core version 28.1 ( a version before significant shenanigannary took place), and I made some changes to the graphics and text.
You never actually need to follow the latest versions of Core to stay in consensus.
Bitcoin Deis is only available currently with Parmanode.

This upgrade is a downgrade in security. 27.x is unpatched against CVE-2024-52919, as well as anything not-yet-disclosed, fixed in Core v28.x or v29.x. You should run whatever you want, but I'd advise against publicly announcing switching to software that can be crashed remotely.

Just upgraded my node from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin Knots. Running (v27.1.knots20240801 via Docker). 😙
You can't stop all spam on the blockchain.
