Celebrating a bunch of wins this week (including some I can't talk about just yet). Wish my dad were still around to enjoy a cigar together. Bittersweet.

Delighted to welcome Ely onboard. Over the last 20 yrs of startups I've developed an intuition for spotting talent & trajectory. I saw that early with Ely, and as time has gone on, it's become glaringly obvious for everyone. Ely is going to be one of the top voices on CT (and in particular: consumer crypto) over the coming months. He's already well on his way. More important than that though - he's a genuinely good human being who works hard to win, builds authentic relationships, AND -- this is critical: he was playing gigaverse from the beginning, before we knew one another. He's our Chief Ely Officer because it's hard to put a man like him in a box. More than anything I just want to work with people who want to grow and win, so we can grow and win together.

on copying vs building something new in crypto: - you don't always have to reinvent the wheel, but pure copycats are betas to the original and are thus capped in price. - product differentiation is a strategy, so is packaging / narrative differentiation, and so is both. - many of the best & most ambitious builders and team members aren't interested in being some other product / token's beta. i would personally find it extremely uninteresting and demotivating to copy what someone else is doing. (the point here is, you exclude certain ppl from working on your thing if its not novel & exciting). - as a trader / market participant, i look for builders & teams that have a history of original thinking and therefore have a shot at starting a new meta or being a category leader. - as a trader / market participant, generally I avoid copycat / beta plays entirely, or if I participate in them then my time horizon is extremely short (measured in hours usually lol). IN AND OUT LIKE A BANDIT. never wanna be left holding a deriv or copycat product. - if you are ballsy enough to build something new, what's most important is that u are able to CLEARLY EXPLAIN wtf it is and how it works. I see many smart builders struggle here, they create something awesome & new, but can't explain it, so nobody gets it, and nobody buys it. - relatedly, doing something new is not enough, you can't just do something new and expect it to be magically discovered (though sometimes this happens out of sheer luck / a studious trader or researcher deciding to kingmake your thing). you need to carve out time / resource / effort in making sure the world knows about your cool new thing. GTM with intent. - don't be upset or insecure when others copy your stuff. this is a great sign, means you are leading the way. if your betas are successful, they help bring visibility to you, the originator. tho u must make sure you are active enough to retain narrative control, as the spectrum of copycat intentions range from honorable actors (who will give u credit) to delusional vampire bozos (who will try to claim it all as their own). - lastly, i believe most ideas are cheap and great execution is everything. however, some ideas are absolute bangers and you should keep these ones close to your chest until ready to deploy. having a potential metastarter of an idea in ur pocket is v valuable.
