Wonder is such an interesting business because their entire model is predicated on saying the quiet part out loud of food production (“the constituent parts of all your lunchtime slop bowls are from the same single food distribution co, 3d-printed-esque meat dressed up in different sauces/nationalities”). marc lore is a genius for this, and I’d probably order from them more if every time I didn’t feel like I was rolling the dice on a Wonder-induced stomachache every time I order.

a couple weeks ago @samrags_ came to my desk and said “it’s time to make a launch video for the Terminal.”
no one on the team had made a launch video before. soon we were off to the races with script drafts, storyboards, hiring a film crew and editor, to tell the story of a product that was still having it’s finishing touches put on it. in the weekend before launch, Sam even went into the adobe premiere and after effects files, because he is that devoted to making sure things turn out as perfectly as they can possibly be.
we think the launch turned out pretty well. devs are logging into the terminal, and are excited about the idea of multiplayer software and paying OSS contributors.
here are some shots from the launch video shoot, the first of many from @merit_systems.

"open source ethos, unlike openai, meta is posturing as the “open” alternative. if you’re idealistic, this feels righteous."
this is my biggest question about the incoming superintelligence team. does meta keep its commitment to the llama family of models, or go closed-source?

so why the hell would idealistic leading researchers join meta of all places besides pure cash? i think zuck’s pitch likely includes:
- data, more human behavioral data than any other entity. it’s the closest proxy to “training on humanity” without breaking laws.
- distribution, any research or product you ship can touch billions overnight. no one else offers that.
- compute, 600k h100s by end of 2025, basically unlimited budget. no red tape. build god, go nuts.
- open source ethos, unlike openai, meta is posturing as the “open” alternative. if you’re idealistic, this feels righteous.
- org design… get to be part of a brand new org designed from scratch.
- ruthlessness, zuck will not hesitate to outspend, outship, or outlast anyone. if you want to win the agi race, he’ll back your play.
but maybe the most compelling thing is that zuck actually gives a shit about the game. if you’re a killer, that resonates.
