Lots of layoffs and departure announcements from various companies today. I don’t think is an indicator of anything bad for the brands unlike a lot of the posts we’re seeing on the timeline, rather I think it’s necessary to continue.
I believe one of the only ways forward for many web3 brands in an environment of uncertain revenue, lack of royalties and finding pmf through it all is having scrappy founder/operators that are able to take on the work they would otherwise be outsourcing, which takes dedication and sacrifice of lifestyle, income and time.
It takes personal risk, and putting yourself on the line. Which is what we’re seeing a lot of founders now doing when you look at who is still around working.
Lmk your thoughts!

I’d love to see more artists use a separate minting contract for work-in-progress, notes, sketches, photographs, and other material that documents their practice. None of it intended for sale. But forever onchain.

Moved our family half way across the world without even visiting first 😅 taught me to not shy away from hard things, gave me the ability to thrive in the unknown, and definitely altered the course of my life for the better.

Thoughts on people buying abandoned or closed projects: IMO we should welcome the offers from anyone willing to take on a project that would otherwise have no future.
In some cases there is bad blood in the community from disappointment and unmet expectations (whether promised or not) but I 100% believe that can be overcome through earnest work and effort. In other cases there is a community there just waiting, eager to support developments.
Of course people are totally in their rights to wind down a project rather than see it go in a different direction than first intended - and sometimes it makes total sense to close a chapter - but in web3 the dynamic between creator and consumer really is so different and that needs to be considered.
Communities aren’t part-owners of projects (with some exceptions), but they should be respected as such - without them in a lot of cases there wouldn’t be a brand. Of course being handed over or purchased doesn’t automatically mean success, but it does mean another chance at it.
We’ve seen a couple of examples of this already and I’m sure we will see more. What are your thoughts?
