Onchain games have gone in the predictable hype cycle and are easy to criticise.
First it was hype
then it was disappointment because people were taking too long to build(it’s really fkng hard)
then it was doubt and questioning why they exist (we are here) - otherwise known as a trough of disillusionment
Next comes acceptance that this technology is here to stay and serves a specific purpose. But not one that is forced into it by speculators pushing teams in a direction that they think is correct. The focused builders know this.
Onchain games - serve a specific purpose and if you don’t lean into this then you have created an over engineered game for no reason.
You must build onchain games to express the medium - which is verifiable and trustable computation. Many onchain game builders and observers forget this and bucket onchain games with every other game. Or do direct comparisons. X is doing well and it’s not onchain, so onchain games have no reason to exist. It’s honestly just lazy.
The industry still has a long way to go - we can all agree on that.
The faster the world becomes generative the more bullish you should become on games that are provably fair. There is about to be total abundance.
Remember if you are collecting assets of a game that is not onchain - as soon as those developers choose to shut down that game is dead and your assets worthless. Maybe thats fine with you, cool.
